i know the tall suit who spent
three weeks reading On The
Road, the curly-haired forty-
something who is a runner
or wants to be, the older gentle-
man who travels from
somewhere wide
enough to plant his own
daffodils for the empty
vases on the twelfth
floor, and the young
woman who keeps her hair
interesting. plus or minus
ten minutes, we all ride in
the same train car
together, towards a
ballpark destination

(smile) thank you! i saw the trampled flower a foot away from me as i was waiting for the transfer this morning. when i got on, i noticed that this guy was still reading On The Road, a little deeper into the book, and the guy who usually gets off a stop before me was carrying a big bouquet of cut daffodils (in a grocery bag from home possibly), still religiously reading his NYTimes.
I love the golden wash over the every day surface we walk on. It gives the mundane a refreshing, appreciative light. The phrases “somewhere wide enough to plant” and “the girl who keeps her hair interesting” really painted your fellow commuters.
I love the saturation levels on the yellow platform. I like how both the poem and the picture speak to the commute in a different artistic expression. They seem to come at the same topic from different directions and deliver well together.

Love this! Both photo and poem are a creative approach to an otherwise unnoticeable part of your day. The photo is like a contemporary landscape.
