I love this. The photo and the poem. One thing that reaaly impressed me was that it covers so much more than I think the intention it was written for. I read this as though I’d lost a loved one, was divorced or had just broken up with my partner, a beloved pet that ran away. The one that stuck out so STRONG; read this as though you are someone suffering the beginning of alzheimers. That blew me away, “Y”. I think that is a sign of some good poetry. Thank-you for this one!
goodness, Leslie – your interpretations are fascinating, and i did try to read them in all the characters you’ve suggested. thank you for opening my eyes to many different levels! and thank you so much for your constant support and encouragements.
no matter which way
i look at it, there is
a crease consistent
with the weight of your
memory
in each new memory –
i am stepping off
the train, and the
platform curls,
losing its grip
on me.
i am opening my
mouth to speak,
and the sentence
dog-ears, and i
am undone.
i am looking
at the sky, and the sky
is rolling up its
corners, already finished
with me
.
