   for eventually everyone,
   All-American sneaks up
   on you –
   a once colorful
   ideal faded into
   a colorless
   complacency, as
   spirited as any rendition
   of Lee Greenwood’s
   popular blessing,
   as humdrum as
   apple pie, Memorial
   Day barbecue, and
   voting rights –
   conflict is just
   an inconvenience
   to be swept
   under the rug
   .
