   mama said grandma
   always chuckled 
   when they 
   stopped
   to take photos here, in
   an unremarkable corner 
   of the neighborhood
   in which she has lived
   for more than half 
   a century – 
   as if a single lotus
   flower in a neighbor’s
   front yard had no 
   reason to be elevated
   to a photoshoot. perhaps
   we no longer recognize
   any other way
   .
